SWIM LESSONS:


Swim lessons at the Y focus on learning vital water safety skills and stroke development through a progressive curriculum. We're proud to offer a variety of swim lessons for everyone: from babies to adults and beginners to the experienced!

Beginning March 1, our swim program will transition from session-based enrollment to a month-to-month, ongoing program model.

  • Swim lessons continue uninterrupted from month to month.
  • Enrollment remains active unless you choose to make a change
  • Monthly billing replaces session-based registration
  • No long-term enrollment commitment is required
  • Swimmer can progress at their own pace without needing to re-register
  • Cancellations or changes can be made on a month-to-month basis

Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness. Parents learn about water safety and drowning prevention.

Classes:

Stage A Water Discovery or Stage B Water Exploration

  • Class length: 25 minutes
  • Ages: 6 months-3 years
  • Adult Participation: one parent or guardian per child must be in the pool for each lesson
  • Ratio: 1:5-8

Children learn water safety and basic swimming competency and progress through levels as they develop skills.

Classes:

Stage 1 Water Acclimation, Stage 2 Water Movement, Stage 3 Water Stamina or Stage 4 Stroke Introduction

  • Class length: 25 minutes
  • Adult Participation: Parent/guardian needs to be present at the start and end of each class and remain near the pools during lessons.
  • Ratio: 1:4

 

Students learn personal water safety, achieve basic swimming competency, and progress to learn about the four competitive swimming strokes.

Teens and adults can choose from two different levels of classes, adult swim basics or freestyle and beyond

Adult Swim Basics: In this warm water class, swimmer will develop a high level of comfort in the water by practicing safe water habits, engaging in underwater exploration, and learning how to swim to safety and exit if they fall into a body of water. Our goal is to have a swimmer achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills. 

  • Class length: 25 minutes, varies by branch
  • Qualification: None needed. This class is for students who aren’t yet comfortable going in water voluntarily.
  • Skills Practiced:
    • Swim, float, swim - sequencing front glide, roll, back float, roll, front glide, and exit
    • Jump, push, turn grab

Freestyle and Beyond: If you've already mastered the fundamentals of swimming, then this is the class for you! Swimmers will earn additional water safety skills and build on stroke technique in our lap poll. We will work on refining all strokes and building endurance in order to foster a lifetime of physical activity.

  • Class length: 25 minutes, varies by branch 
  • Qualification: Student must be able to demonstrate all Stage 2 skills.
  • Skills Practiced:
    • Swim the front crawl with rotary breathing 
    • Breaststroke kick
    • Butterfly kick for 
    • Elementary backstroke
    • Dive from a sitting position
    • Tread water using a scissor and whip kick 

Private Lessons: Group lessons aren't for everyone. Work one-on-one with a swim instructor to meet your swimming goals. 

  • Designed for 1:1 instruction
  • Class length: 25 minutes
  • Adult Participation: Parent/guardian needs to be present at the start and end of each class and remain in the building during lessons.

CANCELLATION REQUEST

Cancellation requests must be received by the 25th of the current month to stop billing for the following month.

Requests submitted after the 25th will take effect the next billing cycle

AQUATICS GUIDELINES 

INCLEMENT WEATHER POOL POLICY

Our YMCA guidelines require us to close the pool to all activities if lightning and thunder is within 6 miles of our facility. Lifeguards are trained to judge this and have the final say on all closures. Pool and wet areas must be cleared and closed until 30 minutes after the last evidence of lightning and thunder is present.

REFUND POLICY

Any cancellation made prior to the registration deadline will receive 100% refund. Cancellations received after the registration deadline will be subject to a $15 fee. No refunds will be issued for requests after the 2nd day of class in any session. 

COME DRESSED TO CLASS

Come to class dressed in your swimsuit, and don't forget to bring your towel for after class! Goggles are optional but you're welcome to bring them!

PARENTS & GUARDIANS

Parents must remain in the building while your children are taking swim lessons. One parent/guardian must be in the water with their swimmer in the parent/child lessons for ages 6 months - 36 months.
