Swim, Sports & Play

Did you know that basketball and volleyball were invented by early YMCA leaders?

Our sports programs develop more than skills—they develop character. We offer a variety of programs for youth and adults, including recreation and league sports. Coaches—often volunteers and including many parents—emphasize teamwork, cooperation, and developing good values.

The YMCA has been America's leading swim instructor for more than 100 years. We also provide recreational, competitive and specialty aquatics programs for all ages and abilities, including parent-child classes, water exercise and therapy, water safety and rescue, and water sports. Programs and classes vary by location.

Our swim lessons teach your child confidence and skills in the pool. Sessions are offered to meet your family's schedule, either once per week or twice per week.

The Manta Ray Swim Team is for swimmers who have completed the YMCA Swim Lesson program and want to continue improving their swimming skills, adding a component of competition. Swimmers will work on perfecting their stroke technique, building endurance, and striving to beat their personal best. Swimmers will be placed in the following levels:

PRE TEAM (Ages 5 & Up)

Pre Team creates a smooth transition from Swim Lessons to Swim Team. In this non-competitive, instructor-led practice, your child will learn basic skills needed to feel confident when joining the Manta Ray Swim Team. Instructors will work on all four competitive strokes, turns, streamlines, swim meet procedures, and competitive swimming terminology.

PREREQUISITE: Completion of Minnow level or ability to swim two lengths of the pool in both freestyle and backstroke.

TEAM (Ages 5 & Up)

Designed for the non-competitive swimmer. Team is a developmental team for swimmers who would like to explore the sport of swimming. Swimmers continue to work on stroke development, stamina, and speed.

PREREQUISITE: Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yds. freestyle without stopping demonstrating good side breathing. Swimmers must also demonstrate correct breaststroke kick.

For more advanced and experienced swimmers. Workouts in practices are more challenging. Swimmers will work on fine-tuning their technique, learning and practicing racing strategies, and reaching a higher level of expertise. Members are required to attend swim meets and will work with coaches to set personal goals for achievement

We offer a variety of active youth classes including ballet, cooking, karate, tumbling, and more! Many are included with your Full Facility Membership and Program Membership* (*for additional cost) . Depending on the class, there may be a fee added for progessing levels or class materials.
